Food Scientist/Technologist

Currently, Meijer is looking for a Food Scientist/Technologist. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for the testing of all food products based on Meijer specifications, exceeding both Meijer and governmental requirements, for private label products

As a Food Scientist you will:

  • Sensory being the key focus for this position
  • Work with Foods Merchandising areas in the selection of product
  • Evaluate potential Own Brand items in a systematic manner utilizing sensory skills and process
  • Respond to Meijer Guest Supermarket concerns, reviewing trends and complaints that may require product recalls
  • Monitor press releases and news items that impact the products sold at Meijer
  • Assist recall team in recalls when required due to situations stemming from Guest complaints, press releases, news articles and vendor requests
  • Maintain information on current food health issues (microbiologic, allergic, etc.) and working with the HRMS on developing any Food Safety information that may need to be communicated to Meijer Team Members and Customers
  • Maintain good working relationships with government regulatory organizations (USDA, FDA, as well as state and local agencies)
  • Actively promoting the benefits and safety of the products that are sold at the Meijer Stores

In order to be considered for this opportunity you must possess:

  • 4-year University or College Degree relating to Food
  • Knowledge of all specifications Food Safety and Regulations
  • Knowledge of sensory testing

Product Development Food Associate

Currently, Meijer is looking for a Product Development Foods Associate. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for working with Foods Product Development Manager and Foods Merchandising to increase share growth in Meijer Own Brand products, as well as deliver products as good as or better than national brand.

As a Product Development Foods Associate you will:

  • Play a significant role in the new team leading Meijer down the "Road to Remarkable"
  • Add innovative new products which will add to the excitement, and give the consumer additional reasons to shop at Meijer because "Meijer has the products I want"
  • Assist in the development of Fresh/Perishable Foods, including foods manufactured by Meijer Self-Manufacturing, and outside suppliers
  • Work on key deliverables in the Bakery/Deli Product Development and Innovation Pipeline, managing key portions of the projects to ensure a timely product launch
  • Collaborate with Product Development Manager to develop and maintain pricing for all raw materials needed to support Meijer self-manufacturing interests
  • Assist in the determination of Meijer raw ingredients, and finished goods product specifications
  • Focus also on base improvements on existing Meijer Brand Fresh Foods that will ultimately lead to increased market share in Perishables, Bakery and Deli

To be considered for this opportunity you must possess:

  • Knowledge of Consumer Packaged Goods, and/or Foods Product Development
  • 4-year University or College Degree or commensurate retail experience
  • Minimum 1 - 4 years experience in Product Development, Food Science, or Research and Development for retail, CPG, and/or foods manufacturing

Foods Product Development Sourcing Manager

Currently, Meijer is looking for a Foods Product Development Sourcing Manager. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for working with key international vendors, Food Merchandising and Self-Manufacturing to increase share growth, by sourcing materials or finished goods to deliver Meijer Own Brand products as good as or better than national brands as well as fresh (unbranded) product.

As a Foods Product Development Sourcing Manager you will:

  • Provide domestic and global product sourcing expertise to the team and the entire food organization utilizing a skill set that includes sourcing strategy development, vendor identification/evaluation and on-going management
  • Provide raw material and/or finished goods sourcing support for all Meijer Own Brands including 1st Label, Markets of Meijer, Gold, Organic and Naturals
  • Partner with the Director of Product Development, other Meijer functional positions (e.g., Packaging, Merchandising, etc) and Daymon
  • Will not have P&L responsibility but must have a record of solid financial success in product sourcing and P&L management

To be considered for this opportunity you must possess:

  • 4 to 6 years experience in product sourcing domestically and globally
  • Four year college degree in relevant area required (Procurement, Product Development)
  • MBA desired
  • The ideal candidate will have been a Product Sourcing Manager for a food company and have 4 to 6 years of experience with steady progression to positions of increased responsibility
  • Must have a successful track record sourcing raw materials/finished product both domestically and globally

Michigan Milk Producers Association Career Opportunity

 

The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) is a cooperative organization of independent Michigan dairy farmers. MMPA provides a wide range of technical, manufacturing, educational and administrative services to assist members with the production and management of dairy products.

MMPA maintains two plants in the state to produce dairy products from raw milk supplied by the members. The largest plant is located in Ovid (20 miles NNE of Lansing. The Ovid facility is a “balancing plant” which produces wet and dry milk and butter products for the commercial market. Some well known customers include Kraft, Yoplait and Edy’s.

The Ovid facility processes up to 5 million pounds of milk per day and operates year around on a 24/7 basis.

The plant is highly automated and is currently completing a $62 million dollar expansion to maximize throughput and optimize its statewide balancing function. An expansion of the warehouse area is currently in the planning stages.

Production Supervisor

Position: Production Supervisor

Reports to: Production Manager

Positions Supervised: Supervises a team of production, maintenance and quality assurance employees on a swing shift basis which includes rotating second and third shifts.

Primary Responsibilities:

This is a key position in the daily operations of the Ovid facility which has responsibility for all activities on assigned second and third shifts.

1. Plans and organizes available resources (employees, materials, time, equipment) to best meet shift production, quality and safety goals. Monitors and adapts plansthroughout the shift as needed. Walks the plant floor to assess employee andequipment status throughout the shift.

2. Develops, coaches and counsels employees to ensure a motivated and competent workforce on the shift. Conducts regular shift meetings on at least a monthly basis covering production updates, changed procedures and safety reviews to keep employees current on processes and procedures.

3. Works cooperatively with other production supervisors to ensure effective shift to shift transitions and to minimize disruption due to unplanned absences. This includes conducting a pre-shift briefing with the supervisor to be relieved, completing shift notes for the current shift and briefing the incoming supervisor when then the shift is done.

4. Keeps other parties within the organization informed of the status of work items. This is primarily contacts with Corporate Sales, Dispatch, QA and Maintenance.

5. Continually develops a stronger understanding of the operations of the milk balancing plant to include: equipment operations, work flow, and labor contract features.

Candidate Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a four year college degree in Food Science or a related degree with a minimum of one year supervisory experience in a food processing plant.

Strong communications and organizational skills are required.

Basic computer skills including a working knowledge of Excel and Word.

The manufacturing environment includes industrial sized equipment situated on dairy tile or poured concrete floors, some accessed on different floors via stairs or ladders. The floors can be wet or slippery from water or caustic solutions used in cleaning. The supervisor must be able to easily and safely navigate throughout the plant on foot, this includes climbing stairs (as many as 186 at a time) or ladders and at times in very hot conditions.
